Poet of Independence Mehmet Akif Ersoy Remembered on Anniversary of His Death
A panel discussion titled “Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Poet of Independence, on the 88th Anniversary of His Death” was held in the conference hall of the Aybüke Teacher Girls' Dormitory located on our university's Şehit Bülent Yurtseven Campus.
The panel, which began at 7:45 p.m., the time when Mehmet Akif breathed his last, featured presentations by Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Tuğluk, faculty members of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature. Recai Şahin, Provincial Director of Youth and Sports; Gülcan Şahin, Director of the Aybüke Teacher Girls' Dormitory; faculty members; and students.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Tuğluk recounted Mehmet Akif's extraordinary life story and his unwavering stance during the most difficult times in our history, citing examples from his poems. Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu then took the floor and shared with the audience Mehmet Akif's high character, his combative nature, and his spiritual role in the victory of the War of Independence.
The panel, which attracted significant interest from our university students, concluded with the presentation of plaques and a discussion between the participants and our students.
