Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Murat Ali KARAVELİOĞLU briefly discussed the experiences he has gained in his five-year tenure, highlighting the continuity in the conduct of government affairs. He provided information about the educational processes of the visiting students who came to Iğdır to learn Turkish and study in various educational programs at our university. He expressed his pleasure at handing over the position to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oğuz Doğan and thanked the academic and administrative staff.

The new TÖMER Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oğuz Doğan, then spoke: "They will make every effort to elevate TÖMER's activities to a higher and more successful level. This requires teamwork, and they will work tirelessly to ensure the education and training of our University at TÖMER." DOĞAN thanked KARAVELİOĞLU, emphasizing that the experience gained will be a most enlightening guide for them.

The handover ceremony ended with the exchange of flowers and gifts followed by wishes for success.

During the panel, the history of the Nevruz Festival was discussed, emphasizing its origins and its impact on Turkish society.

Subsequently, the panel focused on the place and significance of Nevruz in our culture, its traditional celebration practices, and the festival’s contributions to social solidarity.

In the final part of the panel, evaluations were made on the place of Nevruz in the modern world, contemporary ways of celebrating it, and the transmission of this cultural heritage to future generations.

The panel concluded with a question-and-answer session and a musical performance following the speeches.

The panel held at the 8 September Martyrs Conference Hall of the Şehit Bülent Yurtseven Campus Medical and Social Facilities was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Alma, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Selahattin Çelebi, Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Recai Şahin, academic and administrative staff, and students.

The panel, moderated by Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu, featured speakers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veysi Sevinçli, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Tuğluk, and Dr. Yasin Ercilsin.

The program began with a moment of silence and the recitation of the Turkish National Anthem. In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu emphasized the importance of approaching historical figures by taking into account the realities of the era in which they lived.

Speaking in this vein, Assistant Professor Yasin Ercilsin gave a presentation titled “Mehmet Akif in the Days of the National Struggle,” in which he provided a detailed assessment of the period in which Mehmet Akif Ersoy lived and the social and political atmosphere of that time.

Next, Associate Professor Abdulhakim Tuğluk gave a presentation titled “Akif's Poetry on the Road to the National Anthem” and discussed Akif's artistic life and the writing process of our National Anthem.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veysi Sevinçli shared some anecdotes about Mehmet Akif and the National Anthem, then read the poet's poems “Hakkın Sesleri” and “İstiklal Marşı.”

The closing speech of the panel, which attracted great interest from our students, was delivered by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Alma.

In his speech, Rector Alma emphasized that Mehmet Akif Ersoy was one of the poets who most powerfully captured our nation's spirit of independence and love for the homeland, stating, "Mehmet Akif Ersoy was not only a poet but also a man of principle. The National Anthem he wrote is one of the most important works reflecting our national struggle, love for our homeland, and spirit of independence. On this occasion, I remember with mercy and gratitude all the martyrs and veterans who sacrificed their lives for this homeland, especially Mehmet Akif Ersoy."

The panel concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and a group photo session following the speeches.

Our university's Literature Society organized an event to contribute to our students' career development and raise awareness about entrepreneurship.

The event was attended by our University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Alma, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Letters Prof. Dr. İbrahim Demirtaş, Head of the Turkish Language and Literature Department Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu, Academic Advisor of the Literature Society Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oğuz Doğan, faculty members, and students.

Speaking at the event, President Alma provided our students with information by presenting examples from around the world regarding career development opportunities and entrepreneurship strategies. President Alma then went on to offer students important advice on the steps they should take to shape their careers.

The Head of the Turkish Language and Literature Department, Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu, also emphasized the importance of students developing into well-equipped individuals in terms of career development and entrepreneurship.

Then, Associate Professor Ahmet Tan took the floor and emphasized that career planning is of vital importance in our time. He explained the points to consider when choosing a profession and the paths to personal development, using examples from his own life.

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates following the speeches.

A panel discussion titled “Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Poet of Independence, on the 88th Anniversary of His Death” was held in the conference hall of the Aybüke Teacher Girls' Dormitory located on our university's Şehit Bülent Yurtseven Campus. 

The panel, which began at 7:45 p.m., the time when Mehmet Akif breathed his last, featured presentations by Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Tuğluk, faculty members of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature. Recai Şahin, Provincial Director of Youth and Sports; Gülcan Şahin, Director of the Aybüke Teacher Girls' Dormitory; faculty members; and students.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Tuğluk recounted Mehmet Akif's extraordinary life story and his unwavering stance during the most difficult times in our history, citing examples from his poems. Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu then took the floor and shared with the audience Mehmet Akif's high character, his combative nature, and his spiritual role in the victory of the War of Independence.

The panel, which attracted significant interest from our university students, concluded with the presentation of plaques and a discussion between the participants and our students.

Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu continued his speech as follows: “Thanks to poets and writers such as Katip Çelebi, Evliya Çelebi, and Baki, we learn about the historical developments of their era. Historical information that sheds light on that period can be found in the Fetihnameler, Saltuknameler, Seyahatnameler, and Menakıbeler.”
Prof. Karavelioğlu, just as we can read history from the poet Baki about the era of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, we can also read about the era of Fatih Sultan Mehmet from Molla Aşki, who lived during Fatih's reign.
He said we learned that they moved the ships from land to sea.
The second part of the Think Tank meeting continued with questions and contributions from participants.

 The event, which aimed to promote the university, faculty, department, and other units that provide direct services to students, and also featured a symbolic lecture, was attended by department faculty members and assistants, faculty members, and first-year students.

The Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science and Letters and Head of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu, gave a welcoming speech and provided students with information about our University and the Department.

Sharing examples from his experiences, Karavelioğlu spoke about the steps students need to take on the path to success. 

This year, Associate Professor Nusret Yılmaz gave the first lecture of the 2024-2025 academic year.

Yılmaz, speaking about the development of the novel genre in Turkish literature, emphasized why the novel was one of the genres that emerged late in Turkey. He also highlighted the paths to becoming a virtuous and successful individual.

 The opening lecture, which was also honored by faculty members from different departments of the faculty, was conducted at an academic level with a question-and-answer session.

After the lecture, refreshments were served to faculty members and students, and the program concluded with a photo session.

Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süleyman Temiz, faculty members of our university, participated in the “Maarif Foundation-Regional Universities Education Meeting” held in Bingöl.

On May 14, 2024, our university participated in a meeting hosted by the Rectorate of Bingöl University, attended by the Rectors, Vice Rectors, and International Student Office Coordinators of regional universities. Professor Dr. Karavelioğlu and represented by Associate Professor Temiz.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özkan from the Board of Directors of the Turkish Maarif Foundation and Hasan PEHLİVAN, an expert from the Maarif Agency, gave presentations on the situation of foreign students in our country and student admissions in the new period.

Following this, Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Turkish Maarif Foundation, delivered a lecture titled “Internationalization in Education and Turkey.”

The meeting and conference, attended by representatives from regional universities, addressed recent developments, new strategies, and technical issues concerning the transfer of international students and faculty members at universities in Turkey.

Following the event and conference, a bicycle race was also organized, with approximately fifty students from various universities studying at Bingöl University participating.

The meeting, conference, and event concluded after a commemorative photo was taken.

The workshop and meeting organized in Ankara by the Yunus Emre Foundation, affiliated with the Yunus Emre Institute, with the participation of 130 Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Centers and Language Centers from various universities, was attended by Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu, Director of TÖMER, representing our University.

Participants, divided into groups, discussed all aspects of teaching Turkish to foreigners in our country during three sessions covering fundamental problems encountered in teaching Turkish to foreigners, proposed solutions, and TÖMER-YEE relations and collaborations.

The negotiation session held at the end of the meetings took place in an environment where all groups' findings, opinions, and proposals were addressed and discussed.

Following the workshop and negotiation session, our TÖMER Director Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu was selected as one of three academic members of the evaluation committee for project grants to be awarded separately to Turkish language teachers and learners by the Yunus Emre Foundation.
